小熊隊剛拿到世界大賽冠軍，打破纏身108年的魔咒，但陣中主力外野手Dexter Fowler（福勒）已表態，將拒絕小熊隊1720萬美元的合格報價，他選擇投入自由球員市場，尋求更好的合約。
今年2月底曾一度傳出Fowler準備與金鶯隊簽約，後來因故作罷，Fowler選擇重返小熊隊，簽下了1年1300萬美元的合約，而Fowler本季也有不錯的表現，出賽125場，打擊率2成76、全壘打13支、48打點，13次盜壘成功。
Fowler在17場季後賽，又擊出了5支二壘打、3支全壘打，幫助小熊隊贏得世界大賽冠軍。
